Whether you are visiting Southern or Northern California…
You can always be sure of one thing: you are just minutes away from majestic coastlines and pristine beaches. Check out these spots as you head out to explore the beaches of California.
Located in Bodega Bay this beach has a rugged coastline, strong waves, and cool weather. This beach is a popular spot for watching gray whales, hiking and picnicking. There tend to be some strong winds in certain areas of the beach, so it is always best to dress in layers when hitting the hiking trails.
Goat Rock Beach
Located between Goat Rock Point and the Russian River this beach is popular for fishing and for the colony of seals that often beach themselves here. If they happen to be present during your visit, it is advised that you keep a 50 yards distance between you and the colony as they can sometimes be aggressive. The ocean side of the beach is too dangerous for swimming due to the current. However, this is a great spot for beachcombing for shells and driftwood as the beach is full of both.
Known to be one of the nicer beaches in Southern California, this is another beach that is perfect for those seeking to comb for shells and driftwood. The water tends to be colder here with strong rip currents, but the beach is a great spot for fishing and exploration.
The Travel Channel has consistently voted Coronado’s Beach as one of the finest beaches in America. It is not hard to see why with the white glistening sand, gentle waves on the shoreline and magnificent views. The beach is family friends, has a dog run at its north end and has free parking on nearby Ocean Boulevard. There are also a full restroom and shower facilities available and lifeguards on duty during peak hours.
Home to one of the most famous beaches and boardwalks in the world, Venice Beach is a completely different beach experience. The atmosphere here is unlike any of the other beaches in California. The main attraction of the beach isn’t the ocean view or the pristine sand, rather it is the famous Venice Beach Boardwalk and the vendors and characters who inhabit it. With Muscle Beach, unique shops, quirky restaurants and colorful characters the vibe covers everything from strange to marvelous.
